In the days of the great Michelangelo and Raphael, commissioned painters would get the right to choose and design the frame of their choice for their masterpiece. The frame was the painting’s crowing glory, as it looked to accentuate the work of art and to convey its true value to onlookers. In fact, some artists would first design or choose the frame before they even started painting, and some artists went as far as painting a ‘frame’ on the actual canvas! Nevertheless, the choosing and designing of the actual frame became a work of art in itself.

Besides showing off the work’s value, a frame can also show how much you personally value that painting or priceless photograph. Today, framing has gone beyond the traditional four paneled structure, and there are much more simplified and contemporary framing options in which to display your work.
